Barney the PAT Dog

Barney

Barney is our beautiful Golden Retriever, who has his own office within the main Hotel which he shares with his human-Simon (our General Manager).

Barney has recently trained to be a PAT Dog (Pets as Therapy), and will soon be out locally visiting schools, hospitals and care homes to bring joy to everyone he meets.

You should be able to find him every Monday to Friday from 8-4pm and he loves to meet our guests at Reception with either a lick or a tail wag.

With 6 specific Pet-Friendly rooms, Barney has insisted that we make sure that all of his fellow canine friends are well taken care of at our hotel.  This means that all our dog guests are greeted by their own towel, feeding bowl and some treats for the duration of their stay as well as their very own welcome letter!  We also supply their owners with a list of dog friendly beaches where they can let their pooch play.  We aren’t just dog friendly here, we truly value our canine guests as much as their human companions.

Feel free to ask for a cuddle or a photo, or even follow him on Instagram #barneythepatdog Barney the PAT dog

Pets As Therapy is a national charity founded in 1983 by Lesley Scott-Ordish.

We enhance health and wellbeing in the community through the visits of trusted volunteers with their behaviourally assessed animals. We provide a visiting service in hospitals, hospices, nursing and care homes, special needs schools and a variety of other venues all across the UK.

Our therapeutic visits:
Enhance lives in our communities by providing companionship and friendship and helps to tackle loneliness.

Improve the lives of people suffering from debilitating mental and physical health conditions and illnesses such as Autism, Dementia and Stroke by including animal assisted interventions as part of a holistic approach to treatment.

Improve literacy in children by developing their confidence, interest and enjoyment in reading through our read2dogs scheme.
